Hello to everyone from the crew at Porto. The opening ceremonies last evening were very impressive and we are geared up to present our poster and presentations today. The conference is well organized and attended by 1500 so we should have many opportunities to engage scientists and clinicians.

More later.......:D

Our oral presentations went very well yesterday and there was a lot of interest in my poster. The sessions by other speakers continue today and we hope to have many opportunities for networking during the breaks.

Hope all is well with everyone......:)

Hello to everyone!

This is Belinda.. posting under Meg's name, to get a quick note off.

It's a beautiful, sunny Saturday afternoon in Portugal and the conference sessions are ongoing. This conference is quite well attended. It's the largest I've ever attended. All the taxi drivers in town know about the conference, which makes it easier to find our way to the meeting hall.

Last night several of us walked a ways to the funicular, which is a sort of cable car transport that takes you up or down the hill. We rode the funicular down the hill to the side of the Duro River. We saw open boats loaded with huge wooden kegs going down the river. That must have been Port Wine!

After strolling along the river, we found the restaurant that our hotel had recommended, the Chez Lapin.

We were quite surprised that no one at the restaurant was interested in seating us. The workers were busy tidying up. We finally asked if we could eat there, and were told that the restaurant didn't open until 7:30 pm. It was 7:00, which would be peak dinnertime in the USA.:) When we returned to the place at 7:35, it was already getting full. One of the house specials was rabbit, so several of us tried the stewed rabbit. Pork is another favorite in Port, we've found, but all the food has been tasty.

We rode the funicular up the hill and walked back to our hotel. Everybody walks here. There is a plaza across the street from our hotel, and it seems to be full of people hurrying to one place or another during daylight hours.

You will get to see our presentations from Thursday as soon as possible. The whole crew did very well.

Gotta get back to the sessions..

Belinda

Welcome Back Dr. Marshall, Meg, Amy.
I hope you gained some ground at the autoimmune conference.
Is the audio ok on the videos? I have a Mac computer and i don't know if it's a computer problem, or if the echo in the room is causing the audio to cut in and out? I've been anxious to watch the new videos from Porto. If it seems ok on other peoples computer. You can PM me or post here. I hope its just my computer. Thanks --Terry

It has been a lot of work putting these videos together, as the venue was not ideal, and so I am running a little late. I should finish Cpt. Tom Perez and Dr Greg Blaney's presentations tomorrow..

Terry,
Your Mac may not be keeping up with the HD data rate. There is a Button on the right edge of the video display saying "HD On." Toggle it to "HD Off" and let me know if that helps
:)

I just uploaded Captain Tom Perez's presentation to http://vimeo.com/1789735

It may take an hour or so to be processed by Vimeo.

Thanks to Joyce, Joyful, Janet, and everybody else who helped gather and process to the data which Tom presented at Porto. And especial thanks to Joyce for taking on such an active support role in Porto.

----------------

Cpt. Tom Perez has joined the Board of Directors of the Foundation, and is taking an active part in our planning of ongoing activities. Once I finish these videos I will be putting together an announcement letting everybody know how the Foundation will be moving forward over the next few years, capitalizing on its emerging acceptance by mainstream Medicine:)
