DAY 885, 6/6/07, PHASE 3, DAY 4, CYCLE 2/D/C/M, BENICAR 20MG/Q3HRS, BENICAR 40MG/MIDNIGHT, NO ABX COMBO, 1 ACIDOP, NO PAIN PILLS

Much better day....it takes at least 1 full cycle to get to feeling better when you are having a hard time getting started on a new combo.

Spent Monday all day going to Las Cruces and El Paso with my friend from CA. Had a good day....although about 2pm we both picked a recliner at her new house in Las Cruces and took a well deserved nap which we both needed. Had a great time and I waited for the sun to go down before driving the hour home. At least I was tired enough to sleep soundly when I came home.

Tuesday, I dropped Granny's cactus off at her house because they were making my car smell weird from being in the trunk with all the heat (over 100 degrees). I rested the rest of the day.

Slept in till 830am today and am feeling good so far . Think I am getting into the new combo just fine (this is 2nd cycle) so I am calming down about feeling so rough. The 2 week vacation I took did not help a bit and am glad it is over and I will not do another one. MP is the only way I feel alive and I intend to stick with it.

HANG IN THERE, WE WILL MAKE IT!!!!BARNEY:D

DAY 903, 6/24/07, PHASE 3, DAY 6, CYCLE 4/C/D/M, BENICAR 20MG/Q3HRS, BENICAR 40MG/MIDNIGHT, NO ABX COMBO, 1 ACIDOP, NO PAIN PILLS, ALL TOLERABLE

Been a while since I have been online, got my laptop that my grandson sent me and it has been hard to get it all set up. Seems to be ok now.

I have been thru a very stressful month....between problems with the laptop, mice and ants by the tons in our area...even coming in our homes, my homemade soap for my great grandson not setting up...I have been ready for the looney bin. Has been absolutely horrible and I have not gotten much restful sleep.

I have had a foot act up like it did when I was a kid and jumped rope...now it is much better but it took 2/3 weeks.

This combo...have had some burning stomach, been very sick to stomach, had some neck and shoulder pain like I used to when I was preMP. Had some suicidal thoughts again also like preMP....but they subsided after about 3 days and talking with some fellow MPers. Bones have been sore as preMP. I felt really rough and had thought I wished I had not stopped the Z...it seemed to have helped more than anything.....now I am into Cycle 4 of this combo and starting to feel a little better.

I had always deceived myself into thinking that it would be a breeze to go thru Phase 3 after all I have done Phase 1 and 2...it seems I always get the cart before the horse (so to speak).

But I will survive this tooo and will continue healing.

HANG IN THERE, WE WILL MAKE IT!!!!BARNEY:D

DAY 917, 7/8/07, PHASE 3, DAY 3, CYCLE 2 Z/C/M, BENICAR 20MG/Q3HRS, BENICAR 40MG/MIDNIGHT, 2 ABX COMBO, 1 ACIDOP, NO PAIN PILLS, ALL TOLERABLE EXCEPT FOR STOMACH VIRUS

Picked up a stomach bug at the 4th July party in Albq.....not going next year....it is just toooo hard on me. I have to get my friends I look after set up for me being gone...then there is my dog that I make 'people food' for and setting up a lot of outside water bowls....by the time I get to pack my mini 'hospital', cameras (to get pictures of those little angels I only get to see once in a while) and all the clothes, etc that I need. Oh, yeah had to make sure the car was ready to go (it got freon for the ac). Gee, are you tired already....I sure was.

The trip itsself is hard on me.....I leave at sundown....arrive about 1 or 2 am....carry all my stuff inside to make sure I don't have to unload in the sun. I am usually in bed before (just before) I have been up 24 hours...that is not good on me either.

Boy....do I sound like a real nag....but I am trying to recover and I do not believe I will put myself thru this any more.

I was so sick starting Monday from the stomach bug (vomiting, diareah etc) that I stayed in bed eating next to nothing (toast, low carb bread, not good when you are vomiting), drinking only mostly (even water tasted so nasty I could hardly get it down), even my fingers tasted nasty (I am a fingernail biter (when nervous).  and ............to make matters unbearable...I planned to drive sick to get home Wednesday night....but went out to put things in car and had a flat (on the 4th)....so next morning awoke at 3am could not sleep, felt so horrible, sweated so profusely at 7am that I could hardly pack up (everyone else in the house was either at work or to sick to get out of bed). ... was like taking a shower in your own sweat (sorry for that description).

The tire man would have been a delight with his jokes had I not felt so horrible. Got it fixed. I drove 243 miles in 3hrs 15mins (I wanted my own bed so bad) and did not speed. It was hot, I was so sick and could not do anything but drink something. Despite the fact I felt to sick to unload, I unloaded anyway knowing that once I hit the bed or the recliner....forget me....I was not getting up.

I have been home 3 days and thought I was getting past this bug, but despite extra Benicar, Tums and only eating what I could swallow, I am still not up to par yet.

My 5 yr old grandbabie made me feel great mentally....I had made his lye soap for his exzema and you would have thought I gave him gold. What a blessing the grand and great grandbabies are!!!! They make life worth living.

Hope to get past this all and feel better sooon...........ALSO, looking forward to no more 100 degree days...but that is not looking real promising.

HANG IN THERE, WE WILL MAKE IT!!!!!BARNEY:D

Hi Barney
Hope you feel better soon. There may be some helpful tips in the FAQ
What should I do for my stomach problem?
all best, Barb ...

DAY 932, 7/23/07, PHASE 3, DAY 2, CYCLE 5/Z/C/M, BENICAR 20MG/Q3HRS, BENICAR 40MG/MIDNIGHT, NO ABX COMBO, 1 ACIDOP, 1 PAIN PILL + 1 TYLENOL, EYE MOISTURE DROPS, ALL TOLERABLE

Have been able to go to bed and go to sleep at a decent hour despite the last time I did this combo when I was not able to sleep well....guess that means healing is really going on.

Only problem so far....eye pressure got pretty intense...part of which I attribute to looking at small print online which is always hard on my eyes. Pain pill, tylenol and eye drops helped real good today and will put the drops in tonight before going to bed as my eye doc had instructed me and I had neglected to do. This is typical of sarcoidosis to have such dry eyes....it has been better since being on MP so this must be a herx.

My soap (tallow, lard, lye and water) turned out wonderful and have not had to use any lotion since starting to use it. How wonderful!!! Most modern day soap is made with a petroluem base...evidently hard on the skin. (no perfumes added to mine).

I am down to 1 mouse per day...hoping that the ultra sonic devices are the answer....should be down to none. I have not seen one for almost 24 hrs....hope I do not see anymore. I am using glue traps to catch them. I will be glad when this is over, I have washed everything in my house so many times that I am getting tired from cleaning. My hands are the cleanest in town and so is my kitchen.

DAY 938, 7/29/07, PHASE 3, DAY 8, CYCLE 4/Z/M/C, BENICAR 20MG/Q3HRS, BENICAR 40MG/MIDNIGHT, NO ABX COMBO, 1 ACIDOP, ALL TOLERABLE

Years ago when I had the sarc playing a lot of havoc on my body (different intense pain more at some times than other), my left arm where my first skin sarc was (below elbow), the left arm hurt so bad that for years I could not stand to have BP taken on that arm because it ached like a toothache. Well, that returned for the first time, in a long time and I am contributing that to healing.

Yesterday, my right wrist had a return of similiar symptoms (I had forgotten that). My wrists pre MP were so weak that it ached to much to pick anything up with any amount of weight. Returned for just a few minutes....also attribute to healing.

Like hrts, my teeth are bothering me (all 5 of them that I have left). Another thing that I have not mentioned (I don't think I have), when I am going out like to town etc....I start pushing my upper dentures almost thru the roof of my mouth....I think of this being attributed to either (fear) of going out into the sun (which I know affects my health) or nerves being affected by the pressure of going out to do things that I find 'nerve wracking'. Who knows....I just know it happens when I go out....but then again maybe it is the sun....I do not have this problem at night (after sundown).

Otherwise, despite a little upset stomach upset from too much heat when I visited a friend who does not believe in air conditioning despite the temperature....I am doing quite well on this combo. No more visiting anyone in the summer without air.

DAY 947, 8/7/07, PHASE 3, DAY 1, CYCLE 6/Z/C/M, BENICAR 20MG/Q3HRS, BENICAR 40MG/MIDNIGHT, 3 ABX COMBO, 1 ACIDOP, NO PAIN PILLS SO FAR

My eyes are really hurting tonight....maybe I need to put some drops in them. Hurts to look at the screen to type this but I have not posted for a while.

My right leg is bothering me....it had calmed down a lot but maybe I am sitting too much. I turned over in bed last night and pulled something in the lower left side of my stomach while I was stretching. I hope it is not a hernia. It still hurts.

I am so sick of this 'wet' weather I could scream...it is really starting to be a stress that is almost unbearable.  I love winter but I do not like summer much.

There is also the stress of not getting much accomplished around the house...I have so much that needs to be done but can't seem to make my self get enough energy going to do it....that is so discouraging. I moved my bookcase 2 months ago and the books still are not back in it. I have managed to keep my dishes washed up, thankful for the dishwasher. But I am having a hard time making myself cook despite the fact I love to cook. It is just to darn hot to heat the house up.

I have been trying to get some computer things done and they are giving me more stress than I care to deal with. Seems like some days everything goes well with a computer and other days it fights you all the way.

Mice have not been seen for about a week....hotter weather is coming back the end of this week...I hope it does not encourage the return of the mice....I am still cleaning up after the last ones. I have cleaned cupboards and vaccumed until I am sick of cleaning....that is basicaly the most I have gotten done.

Barney,

It's very strange but my eyes hurt when I tried to read your post...it seems blurred. The post directly above it does not seem that way. Maybe there's something wrong with the settings on your computer.

I was unable to continue reading it bothered my eyes so much.

DAY 948, 8/8/07, PHASE 3, DAY 2, CYCLE 6 Z/C/M, BENICAR 20MG/Q3H, BENICAR 40MG/MIDNIGHT, NO ABX COMBO, 1 ACIDOP, 1 PAIN PILL, 4 TYLENOL, ALL TOLERABLE

This has been a really rough week or two for me.

I have had a lot of difficulty with my eyes since starting back on C...as I believe it will help the sarc in my eyes....but at present they are having a hard time with reading anything that is not dark.

I pulled something in the lower left hand side of my stomach/groin area and it has hurt so bad that I can hardly stand it....today it has gotten a lot more bearable with a pain pill and several tylenol. Called my daughter and she (a medical professional) gave me some advice as to what problems to look for if any. I think it will be healed soon.

My upset stomach is violent. I started back on artificial sweetners after trying small amounts of anything but....I am beginning to believe it is the maltitol in the choc covered peanuts....not sure but tonight is great...hope it stays that way. I can handle pain better than a nasty feeling stomach. Am going to go and try to read the
FAQ on stomach problems if my eyes will allow me to read it.

Otherwise, life is good....much better since MP.

DAY 957, 8/17/07, PHASE 3, DAY 3, CYCLE 7/Z/C/M, BENICAR 20MG/Q3HRS, BENICAR 40MG/MIDNIGHT, 2 ABX COMBO, 1 ACIDOP, NO PAIN PILLS, ALL TOLERABLE

I really thought today was going to be HELL DAY cause I messed up and doubled one of my abx when I only intended to go up 1/8 instead of 1/4, but all is well and I must have needed it....cause I do not look like I am not going to be able to walk when I get up out of the chair. The pain last cycle was bad enough but not as bad as when I did this same combo back when I was taking care of my parents.

As I go back thru herxes, they get lighter than the time before....still hurts but not near as bad.

This time I felt like all the bones in my head felt like a giant 'toothache'. I had this herx before....no pain pills touch it...but extra Benicar helps.

The hips/legs are still healing....they still give me a lot of problems but not as bad as last time....I am sure there were a lot of 'bugs' there and there are still plenty...but are working on them big time and they are slowly getting less.

Am also not able to get so much done these last few days (just dishes into the dishwasher and some cooking) because I went crazy the first of the week and spent 12 hrs Monday visiting my friend from California and shopping for things I cannot get in my hometown. Then helped Granny the next day and a half. Finally crashed and coming out of it now and hope to get something done tonight before bed (need to do a few things not to hard but just needed to get rid of the fatigue.

I always feel so guilty sitting and resting, when there is so much to get done in this house. Hopefully I will not run so hard the next time, but if you are like me....when I do have some energy...I take advantage of it.

HANG IN THERE, WE WILL MAKE IT!!!!BARNEY:D

DAY 981, 9/10/07, PHASE 3, CYCLE 1/C/M, BENICAR 20MG/Q3HRS, BENICAR 40MG/MIDNIGHT, EXTRA BENICAR AS NEEDED TO CONTROL HERX, NO ABX COMBO, 1 ACIDOP

I really made an error last night....do not depend on your mind/memory....it is not a good situation. I have a 7 day pill box that I have always used on MP...plus I have a small planner book that I keep all my notes each month as to cycle changes, upping meds, etc. Well, one week I need 4 abx capsules and the next week I only need 3 (since we take them every other day). I laid the 4th (extra) one in Sunday's slot and then was slow thinking enough to take it. I should not have....that made 2 days in a row I took abx......I got really sick to my stomach, had very intense diareah.......went to bed to try to sleep until I would feel better. I did not figure out what I did until the middle of the night when I woke up and it hit me what I did.

Needless to say...today...the herx was a lot more intense but I was able to be able to just use extra Benicar to get thru.

I was due to take the next abx tonight but decided I will just skip this dose and pick up the next scheduled dose.

I went to go to town to take Granny to PT but when I stopped by my (mechanic) neighbor, got out of my car discovered that both of the serpentine belts had 'bit the dust'. Thank God I was at his house. Another neighbor took me to town to get the two belts, I returned, put them on the front seat and went back over to my house and CRASHED. Thank God I did not have to go to down, I was able to sit down and take a giant nap, which really helped too.

Newest discoveries:

Shower: 2 days ago as I was taking my shower...I had to pull the shower curtain as the steam from the shower (not that hot a water) was bothering my breathing. Not had that sensation since preMP. I have had the best breathing ever in my life since MP. It was extremely hard to breathe preMP plus the asthma attacks but since the breathing has been so good for 2 1/2 yrs on MP, it is sort of like the old saying (out of sight, out of mind). I love MP.

Smells: I can't remember the last time that I smelled a pine tree out of the clear blue sky.......but the other day I was at Granny's I walked out the door and I smelled the pine tree. Wow!!! what a treat....they smell so good.

Well, I am doing well, feeling pretty good except for the extra dose of abx.

See how everything always works our for you, Barney?  And it will continue to work out.  I look forward to hearing from you and reading your posts.  I too smelled the odor from a tree, but I think it was an eucalyptus tree.  I hope I can continue smelling pleasant things for a change.  Little by little all things will work together:D.

Feel good and be blessed.

DAY 995, 9/24/07, NO ABX SINCE 9/15/07, BENICAR 20MG/Q3HR AND EXTRA BENICAR AS NEEDED TO CONTROL HERX, PAIN PILLS AND/OR TYLENOL AS NEEDED FOR PAIN

Since stopping the abx, I have had a few different herx reactions.....some angina...able to control with breathing techniques (had angina preMP).

A lot more mucus...have used some Zyrtec to 'dry' up the mucus.

Had 2 episodes in shower with breathing but that has stopped as of present.

Hips/legs...as usual...are my biggest problem...not taking much pain meds...even tho they hurt and/or feel so tired I have to stop and take sit-down breaks and then proceed on.

No brain fog whatsoever now.....TV is so clear and colorful I am just totally amazed. Thought patterns are so much clearer.

I am much more energized...probably doing more than I should although I am also resting.

Tuesday, 9/18/07....I left for Albq to celebrate my birthday (also my great grandaughter's).

Wed..........went to friends house with daughter for her to look after mother and daughter she had just delivered before I got to Albq....I got to hold the newborn baby...she had the biggest head of hair I have ever seen...mama and baby doing great. Then went to the wonderful NM state fair which is always big and great....lots of bldgs with quilts, canning, bakery items, animals. Wonderful greatgrandkids who enjoyed all of it with us without complaining about not getting to ride the rides as soon as we got there (we got there at 4pm with quite a bit of sun still going on....reason for touring bldgs first). Went out to midway and let the kids ride all the rides they wanted after dark...I left by 9pm approx). Wow...I made it thru the 4hr trip and the afternoon/eve at the fair.

Thurs....went shopping all day until about 4pm when my son in law came home and prepared a great meal for us....daughter was still at hospital with lady in labor...went shopping again after dinner until 1030pm. When I got home, my daughter said, 'mom...you better calm down....you won't have enough energy to drive home Saturday'. It felt so good to be able to 'shop til you drop'. I had always needed to rest a lot after driving up to Albq during MP with abx.

Fri....my 64th birthday....my grandchildren/daughter took me out for breakfast (youngest granddaughter paid)....did a little more shopping and then went home for a nap (nap almost everyday but short ones).....then my son in law took us all to the Texas Roadhouse to celebrate mine and greatgrandaughter's b-day, she turns 4). 60 yrs between us but just the lovingest child. Greatgrandkids sang Happy Birthday all day. Had a wonderful birthday with lots of hugs and kisses.

Sat....I was in charge of picking up 50pcs fried chicken from the local grocery for the 11am birthday party at the park for Tabitha who turns 4 tomorrow. Despite a hat, Noirs, and all other coverups...plus lots of big shade trees (and only there for about 3 hrs)...I have a sunburnt tip of nose, cheeks, lips and chin which felt more like sun poisioning than a sunburn. The herx so far from that was insomnia that night....even took extra Benicar.

Sun...got up with 6am Benicar....loaded car...and was on the road by 730am with lots of clouds which disappeared about 25 miles down the road....put a sun shield on the drivers window and put my sunvisor on for more protection....got home about 1130am...dropped off Granny's 'stuff', ate lunch with her.....stopped by Ray's and dropped off a can of cashews for taking care of Amanda for me.

Amanda was so very excited to see me....she kissed and kissed me. I have since unloading the car...been either in my recliner or bed resting.

WOW!!! I feel so great despite any herxes which are mild compared to beginning MP....I had a wonderful time and am not having any hard time thinking or doing anything needed done. I did not at any time, need to crash at all.....I love the MP....I feel so great.

ps I had a little cough start up after I got back but has subsided already.

HANG IN THERE, WE WILL MAKE IT!!!!BARNEY:D

Happy Birthday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You are truly an inspiration to all MPers!!!!!!!!!! If they go back to see all the obstacles you have jumped over on the MP...like doing this with one Kidney without problems, living away from family, being in your sixties, etc....it is an awesome testimony to others with the same situation...

Thanks for being there for me in the beginning and knowing I can always call you when needed!!!

Love and hugs, Jeannine:dude::dude::dude:

Barney-

You were kind enough to send me an encouraging post a couple of weeks ago and man do I need that encouragment now. I am on day 13 of the Benicar and plan to stay on it only until about 20 days due to some prior commitments. A friend just called and said that our common internist says that this Benicar is a bunch of baloney and that I should start on some reasonable meds before I have further joint damage.

This has really scared me.  Did you try traditional methods for your RA before MA?  I feel so confused and scared. My skin is tingling and burning all over. If I see one more pink ribbon for breast cancer and one more commerical with hot hard body women running as breast cancer survivors I think that I will throw up!

Can you give me any advice?

Vicki

Barney-

When I wrote your letter I had not read all of your previous posts. Sorry for such a silly pitiful question. Congratulations on all of your success and your beautiful family.

Vicki
