DAY 684, 11/16/06, PHASE 3, DAY 4, CYCLE 3/Z/C/D, BENICAR 20MG/Q3HRS, BENICAR 40MG/MIDNIGHT, NO ABX COMBO, 1 ACIDOP, 2 PAIN PILLS, ALL TOLERABLE
Went to dinner at a friends house....the most delicious beans/ham and salad I have tasted. Maybe because I didn't have to cook it and maybe because she is a good cook....enjoyed evening looking at all the beautiful woodwork they do...just gorgeous. Even got invite for Thanksgiving.
Hip/lower back hurt bad today but I am beginning to believe it is helped along by resting for toooooo long a periods in my recliner. Will try to avoid that to see. Sure it is also a herx aggravated by the recliner.
Other than that and a little tired from all the running I have had to do for the past 2 weeks....I am having a great month so far....just blown away by the ability to feel so well and get so much done.
Defrosted the freezer...which is somewhat easy since you mostly sit and wait for it to defrost and wipe up the water every so often. Found things in the freezer I forgot I bought...will try to make my meals from what is in the freezer and use some of it up. Cannot veer to far from the low carb diet as my sugar goes over 300 when I do. Sure hope the MP gets hold of this diabetes soon....getting tired of worrying about it. If I behave it says pretty good.
Sure would like to have a big plate of french fried shrimp complete with cocktail sauce....maybe someday in the future...I will feel I can try it. Wouldn't mind having deviled eggs for Thanksgiving but will behave and not do that so I do not mess up my good goings on MP.
What a blessing MP has been for me and it is improving daily....I just marvel at how good I am really beginning to do (since 2/3rd week of September)....it just gets better almost daily. Thanks Trevor.

Took Granny her B-day present (she's 84)....went to 3 stores for her to get all her groceries in that she needed (and didn't really need).....out in sun from 1030am to 5pm (covered...+...w/Noirs)....exhausted from all the shopping and carrying the groceries in...went home and 'collapsed' into the recliner for the rest of the night. Have done next to nothing rest of evening...but...each day on MP seems to be better and better and better. Seem to be more clear headed daily...so very thankful for that.
Only herx I noticed today....TMJ is hurting...almost hurts to chew but not bad enough for a pain pill.
Going to stay home for Thanksgiving and have dinner with my friend. Will travel at Christmas (to Albuquerque) but only at night unless weather turns bad...but I would still feel okay to travel during day since I am improving...although it would probably wear me out and I like to not feel tired when I arrive so I can play with the babies.

Had a 'different type herx' today. I don't know how to explain it exactly. It was not a headache or an achey head but every bone in my head has hurt all day long no matter what I have done (extra Benicar and a pain pill) but to no avail. It is tolerable but different....more on left side (pain goes up the back of my head)...but definite throughout every bone in my head.
Every bone in my body hurts to the touch and always has since I started having sarc....I guess since I have had it so long I don't notice it unless I touch any bone and then it lets me know it is 'sore'...also a strange feeling.
Been very tired after my stupidity yesterday of all the running around and carrying all those heavy sacks into the house....was in bed until 2pm and then in the recliner the rest of the day until 10pm when I have loaded the dishwasher 2 times (was a bad girl and ran out of dishes before I finally got enough energy to do them). I will behave myself a little better in the future....not worth the suffering. Also, filled Amanda's outdoor feeder and took off 2 bags of trash....other than that...did nothing.
Will be going to bed (again) soon....need to rest a lot more....which is very important for recovery in MP. Don't know why I do such stupid things...guess I was feeling so well that I just went 'crazy'.

Barney,
I also have the symptom of bones in my head being sore to the touch. (It sounds like yours is a new symptom, (?) and part of a Herx, but mine is just one of my symptoms.) It seems to be the very worst, when I'm having a migraine, so I have connected the two. I see you have migraines too, so maybe that's why you're getting it as a Herx. symptom. When the bones are particularly touchy, I fear a migraine is on the way. I've always felt this was an odd symptom, and haven't known anyone else who experiences it, until now. (It has gotten worse since my migraines have changed from the more classic pattern of pain, to the 'ice pick' variety, which are even more troublesome and painful, to me. My Neurologist says they're all part of the same migraine syndrome.)
I just wanted to say how much I appreciate those of you who come back and post to this alumni forum. It's SO helpful to me!

Carol,
I think you may have misunderstood....I have had sarc for 40+yrs and have had this bone pain most of that time. I have had the pain so long...I think I have learned to 'live with it' and not even notice it until I touch the bone...but this time it was a little more intense. This is NOT a new symptom....nor does the pain ever stop....this just seems to be a herx (stronger than usual) and hopefully the bugs in that department are dying off...thus explaining why I am feeling the pain without touching the bones.
At one time (preMP) I was using Immitrex shots to stop the migraines and have also used Fiornal to stop them but I have not had a migraine since I started MP....so I do not believe your neuro has it correct (at least not in my case). However, he might possibly be correct in your case. Also, mine does not feel like an 'ice pick'. Each bone in my body is sore to the touch.

Barney,
I think we've both misunderstood. I couldn't tell if you'd had the sore-to-the-touch bone pain in the past. Sorry to have misunderstood you.
What it boils down to is that I have the sore head bones, and that's what struck me when I read your post, because I've not known anyone else with that complaint. AND I have migraines, but my migraines are different now than they used to be. I realize they're not what you have. I know mine are still migraines, though, because Relpax works on them, and the Neuro said it wouldn't if they weren't migraines. I was just rambling on about myself by that point. Sorry!
I'm SO glad to hear the migraines are gone for you!!

Carol,
Please don't apologize, I should have written a lot plainer.
Are you really taking something not on the MP for migraines? Extra Benicar will help with the headaches (more than 4 per day, when needed). It also helps you sleep. After the first 40mg Benicar....it no longer works as a blood pressure med and that's when it is ours to work with MP.
I have had an achey head, I have had a headache since MP, but not the nerve gripping migraines I used to have before MP. I hated the feeling that the Imitrex shots gave me in the back of my head...I think that is why I always put off the shot for as long as I could....which was stupid on my part....just suffered even longer. Since MP.....no more migraines...at all.
I turned that wonderful corner back in September on the MP when I could see a light at the end of the tunnel and it gets better daily...but I know that I will still herx as I keep going thru the combos....but life is much better since September just so you know that is a wonderful day coming for you and all MPers....and then the best one of all....when we have completed MP and are completely well.
I am on a different combo (no mino this combo) and it is really working on my eyes, head bones, jaw bones and the TMJ is going overboard....I am sure this is a herx and it will all be better when all those bad bugs have gone down the drain. Sometimes I forget all the problems sarc has caused me but then when the MP kills off those bugs...the memories return.

Oh Barney, I've miscommunicated again!
The doctor had given me two sample Relpax to try several months ago, to determine if the ice pick headaches were migraines, since they were a change from the typical migraine I used to have. (He said the Relpax wouldn't work unless it was a migraine.) They worked, but I never got a prescription for them, after reading some of the side effects. So, no, I'm not taking anything at all, in fact, other than the MP meds and a couple of ok supplements.
The more I read peoples' posts, the more similar so many of our symptoms are, which ever diagnosis we're labelled with. TMJ is another one so many of us have.

Took next combo yesterday (11/21/06).....but did not increase anything due to the intense herx I was having Monday/Tuesday (11/20 & 21) until I took my next combo.
This combo is really working on the bones in my face and eyes.....I know this has to be doing some intense healing because my face and eyes had been real bad prior to MP. It is calming but still know it is there. The next combo really helped. I went to Granny's Tuesday and she said my face looked very swollen but that my eyes seemed to be following different events as they were happening....she felt before my eyes stayed sort of 'fixed' on things. I did not feel this....I felt I had been doing quite well....I had been multitasking just fine and helping her and others.
However, the newest herx is the muscles in my upper (r) leg are sore again...hope this heals it.

Thanksgiving day was great....went to friends house....did not have to cook this year....was very careful what I ate and for the first time in years, I did not overeat (yeah!!!!!!!)....that is such a miserable feeling to overeat.
Yesterday I went to stay with Granny all day until 9pm as she was having a terrible bout with diareah and at 84 getting pretty weak....got it all calmed down and she is resting comfortable. Did not think just mostly sitting around all day would wear me out so much...maybe more stress (worrying about her) than I realized....but did spend most of today in bed resting/sleeping. I am still very tired and have a bit of an achey head.
Am finding my fists closing some of the time again but not near as much as they used to....tight as they can get before.
Left leg clear into pelvic bone getting a pretty rough pain on arising but subsides after I get a few steps in.
This combo....has really given me some altogether new herxes and brought back some memories.
Bones in head still achey but not as bad as they were.
Well, I guess that's all the complaints I have for today. lol

Tonight I am questioning whether I should have ramped this cycle as I feel worse and feel as tho the increase would have helped....don't know but tomorrow night I will increase one of the 3 abx's...if I am wrong....I will revert back but we will see how it goes.
I am still having achey bones in face, sinuses and achey eyes. In the PM today had to take pain pills 4 hrs apart, extra Benicar and apply (rice) hot sock to face and neck in addition to pain pills....only increased for about 6 hrs tonight and is now calmed down....but the weird part of this herx is that wherever the pain is...it is absolutely cold almost intolerably cold....never experienced such a feeling that I can remember in all of my life. Almost like my face is freezing and if I apply my warm hand or the rice sock it actually helps it from hurting.
Not making a fist anymore (one of the herxes). No leg/hip pain for a while.
My heart is aching for Donna tonight and my prayers are with her and her family. Find it so hard that anything can get past MP.
Well, I need to go to bed...have to go to LC tomorrow with friend (just along for the ride).

Just wanted you to know how much I admire you. Reading your posts gives me al ot of strength. While I struggle to wean off the prednisone, you make me realize that it is possible.

Terry M....thank you so much for the compliments....each day I just keep putting one foot in front of the other....so to speak....following the rules from when I originally started MP.

Today started about 330am when I arose for a bathroom call and found that the temp had dropped to 14 and my water had froze....knew I could not do anything about it until daybreak....I just went back to bed. From living in the country most of my life....I had extra jugs of water (to flush toilet with...not drinking water).
Got up about 8am and it still was only about 16 degrees....so I called my neighbor and he had water so I took more jugs down and filled them....he also brought me drinking water.
Finally...it was like a light bulb came on....put a small (milkhouse type) electric heater inside the shed and put the side and front back on the shed and plug it in..also turned on 3 faucets full blast in the house and within an hour I had water and thank God...no lines broke. Tonight is going to be just as cold but am having second thoughts of leaving the heater on all night....wow....decisions, decisions.
The worst part of all of this....I forgot 2 Benicars...and the next thing I knew I had intense head pain....so took extra Benicar and a pain pill and a tylenol AND all was well again. For a short time...I was intensely tired but that also calmed and I got some more of my Christmas presents made. I am making all of them this year. Me with the most intense MCS in the world is making something with scent in it. Of course I am doing it outside and then getting a 'lid' on it before I bring it into the house to decorate it. My friend's remark was 'You and scent'....wow...thanks to MP I am able to do this....plus walk down the soap aisle of the store and go almost anyplace without a problem other than the cigarette smoke still bothers me but no more asthma attacks from any of the MCS. I love you MP.
My face bones are not hurting since I ramped up on my C. So glad...cause this pain was really hurting. Mind feels a little clearer tonight tooo.

Barney, you made me smile. My heater is making a strange noise. I offered a couple of Benicar but it just sat down in the dark corner of the house wimpering. I guess it won't fix everything (wink, but just about!). I just hope we are not all frozen by morning.
Good to hear you were able to work with scents. So many improvements, a little at a time and all to be grateful for. Thank you for reminding me of that, too.--Janet

Awoke tired, so took a nap about 11am....at noon got chicken and went to Granny's...wrote all her checks, mailed them, went to 1st grocery for her, went to Dollar Tree for 'bags' for Christmas gifts instead of wrapping them....went to County meeting about the 'stupid' ordinance they are trying to pass off on us and then went to Walmart...shopped for myself and the rest of Granny's...took it to her and went home and unloaded my groceries/put them away. Think I was worn out...you are so very right.
I took the pain pill +tylenol about 2pm as muscles, neck and head felt 'tight' and hurting....plus a whole benicar.....helped a lot.

Neighbor boy and I went to Granny's to pick up the twin bed she gave me for my guest bedroom...went to town to pick up some more supplies for making Christmas gifts (which they could not find).....came home and
I collapsed for the rest of the day in the recliner.....dozed off and on....no real sound sleep....just to very tired from the night before and this morning. Neck had a needle type pain which kept waking me....did not even eat lunch.
After leaving 2 sinks full of dishes I went to bed at 9pm....slept good most of the night until my usual 4am potty call and then it was nothing but toss and turn...the achey head pain has never ceased this combo....some days lighter than others.
A lot of the time when I am this achey and I leave my upper dentures in....I keep shoving them up against the roof of my mouth....making my head hurt more. I have come to the conclusions that this is the muscles giving me fits....especially when I do not stay home in the house....hope I am not that tense about going out but maybe I have the fear of the sun on my mind all the time. Eyes are also hurting. Nothing is hurting so bad that it is not tolerable just very very annoying. Also comes and goes. Eyes are also extremely dry and remembering that from the eye docs office....I put artificial tears in and that calmed what feels like 'pressure'.
Also, my nose has just run like crazy for a few days, not stuffy, just runny (clear) and I must be breathing thru my mouth at night because my lips are so chapped they hurt...chapstick does not even help much. Also, my hands are so dry they are like rough sandpaper and nothing seems to help that so far.

Second day in a row going to town for errands for about 4 hrs each day. Feeling better tonight than I have for a while....not so tired...sometimes I think it is good to get out of the 'rut' and feel that it envigorates me. Some days I do tooo much and then pay for it the entire next day.
It has been very dry here and the skin is taking a toll plus the drying effects of diabetes isn't helping.
The left breast has its typical pain in it today but this too goes away.
It has been dropping down into the teens here and the old well froze up again last night so....I had to go wrap the pipes even more. Hope this stops soon.

Ramped Z last night...cleared the brain a little but it brought back the very tired arms not quite as bad in the past...must be healing and the (r) leg muscle above knee pain but it stayed quite low....will see what day 3 brings.
Eyes have been better today...not quite so dry. Hip has not bothered me today..that's a blessing in itsself.
Been in town from noon till sundown getting errands taken care. Had Granny's cell no changed since she was receiving some obnoxious calls.
Took Amanda (my dog) with me since it was so very cloudy and would not be too hot in the car for her....we got some lunch out (she loves people food) plus she is my best friend who always knows when I am feeling so bad and helps me thru it...I talk to her like she is a person...if anyone would see me...they would put me in the 'nut house'. Really she does seem to understand most things I tell her and since she is a good listener...that really helps my mental state most days.
I don't seem to have near as many 'down in the dumps' days as I used to....MP seems to be helping that.
Well, I guess I will sign off and try to get the dishes in the dishwasher if I still have enough energy to get them in there. If I would just keep them rinsed and in the dishwasher I would not have to go thru this...but I seem to only do that once in a while. I sure hope MP gives me a brain that works. lol

DAY 3 ........... DAY FROM HELL!!!!
Spent most of day in bed.............got up.....took pain pill and got something to eat and then it got better (always forget that prolonging a meal just makes it worse for me). I also changed my way of ramping (zig/zag method) and will go back to my old way...raising the other 2 abx before ramping the Z.

ps .... remember .... I really did turn that corner in September which is still great and wonderful (I can still go out without hardly any reprocusions from the sun)....(but that does not mean I am done or not going to herx)

Today was better....got up about 8am and was pain free until about 12 noon...when the pain started in, in the shoulders. I don't know how to explain this pain...it is sorta like so extremely tired but also so achey. Hard to lift my arms up to even hang a shirt up let alone reaching up to put it on the clothes rod...that is even worse. So if I basically do not do anything involving raising my arms up (arms feel like they weigh a 1000 pounds)...most everything else is bearable. Have had to take the second pain pill + tylenol but that keeps it bearable. Yesterday tho...that pain in the (l) side of the back of my head up over the top and into the left eye had come back again.
Everything that returns....comes in with less intensity each time....pretty soon.....nothing will return (oh yes....sweet MP is taking care of that).
Went out about 1230pm with my friend from California (she's in for the week)...we exchanged gifts (a beautiful 3 candle water fall which has not flame but flickers from the water flowing and is very soothing....(her son was here also) so we took him out to see her land about 17miles from my house and then we went to Rockhound Park (the park to pick up excellent rocks to tumble and make jewelry from) and went up to Spring Canyon which is part of the park and the road up to the top is like a roller coaster (up and down...real steep)...we had a blast and laughed ourselves silly (which is good for the old illness).
No head/eye pain today at all...but arms still feel like they weigh 1/2 ton....other than that...it has been a great day...with lots of laughing....fun and best of all....good friends to enjoy it with.
Joanna/her son took lots of pictures....and Joanna tried to play match maker with a gentlemen we met up on the mountain. He was a gentle talking man and invited me to come visit him (he spends winters in Deming). Might do that...but only to have another friend...too much into MP to try a relationship right now.
