DAY 50 FEB 19, 2005 BP 120/80 P 76 20MG BENICAR Q3HRS 40MG BENICAR AT BEDTIME, 50 MG MINOCIN
BEGINNING TO WONDER IF MY 'BUGS' ARE DYING OFF OF OLD AGE IS WHY THEY ARE NOT GIVING ME AS MANY PROBLEMS AS I HAD ANTICIPATED.
HAVING SOME PROBLEM WITH MY MENTAL STATE OF HAVING TO NOT GO OUT DURING THE DAY. I'VE NEVER DONE THIS BEFORE AND SOME DAYS I FIND IT VERY DIFFICULT NOT TO GIVE THIS ALL UP. THE ONLY REASON I KEEP GOING IS : NO NEBULIZER, NO SENSITIVITY TO SMELLS, VERY FEW HEAD AND NECK ACHES. I JUST HAVE TO KEEP TELLING MYSELF TO HANG IN. I'LL BE OKAY, I JUST HAVE TO GET BUSY ON THINGS IN THE HOUSE. GOD KNOWS I HAVE PLENTY TO DO.
I'VE HAD NO LIGHT EXPOSURE FOR 2 DAYS NOW AND TONIGHT I WILL TAKE 50 MG MINOCIN AND WE'LL SEE IF ANY OF THESE LITTLE BUGGERS PUT UP A FIGHT.

Hi BARNEY,
Here's a really good site, called Home of the Glycemic Index. This is actually the main testing institution for the Glycemic Index Food Values. Just click on the GI database tab.
http://www.glycemicindex.com/
The GI of oatmeal is 75, but if you add some cream or half-n-half, and a few nuts, you'll lower the total GI index for the total meal. Portion control is also essential for controlling insulin and glucose.
As for the emotional feelings from staying in your cave, IMO, most of that feeling is herx.

THANKS, REENIE, FOR THE LINK. I KNEW TO ADD THE NUTS, CREAM ETC. TO CHANGE THE INDEX. IT'S GREAT THE WAY THAT WORKS!!
THIS IS THE WORSE I HAVE HAD THE 'DOWN IN THE DUMPS'. I AM BETTER NOW. I GOT OUT AT THE BRINK OF DARKNESS AND WENT TO A FRIENDS HOUSE FOR DINNER (CHICKEN, GREEN BEANS), DID NOT EVEN ATTEMPT TO EAT THE MACARONI SALAD (LOTS OF VIT D IN THERE AND FOLIC ACID). I DID NOT REALIZE THE DEPRESSION WAS PART OF THE HERX, BUT NOW THAT YOU MENTIONED IT I REMEMBER READING THAT IN THE INSTRUCTIONS FOR MP.
I HAVE ALSO HAD WHAT I CALL 'NUISANCE' PAIN IN NECK, SHOULDERS, BACK, MUSCLES IN ARMS AND SOME SORENESS IN BOTH BREASTS (THEY HAVE A LOT OF FIBROSIS). ALSO, MY EARS FELT PLUGGED. TOOK A PAIN PILL AND ALL WAS WELL THE REST OF THE DAY.
DID NOT HAVE TO TAKE THE NAP I USUALLY DO THE DAY AFTER MINOCIN.
IT HAS BEEN A ROUGH WEEK HERE, FRIEND'S MOTHER PASSING AWAY AND THE ARGUING AMONG THE FAMILY. MY OTHER FRIEND HAVE FAMILY PROBLEMS ALSO, JUST DIFFICULT FOR EVERYONE. WONDERING IF IT HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE FULL MOON ON IT'S WAY HERE THIS WEEK. SEEMS PEOPLE ACT WEIRD WHEN IT COMES UP. I THINK EVERYTHING IS COMING TOGETHER AND I GOT TO GO TO WALMART AFTER DINNER AND THEN OVER TO MY GIRLFRIEND'S HOUSE FOR AN HOUR OR SO, THE CHANGE OF SCENERY HELPED QUITE A BIT AND I AM SURE THE MINOCIN IS WEARING OFF.

I think I may have been too quick to say that the Minocin was wearing off. After Reenie reminded me that depression could be herx, I went back and read PHASE I instructions. Guess what...the stuffy nose the last two Minocin had kicked in. Since I have had most of the herx symptoms without even being on MP, I did not think to put 2 and 2 together. Since starting MP and only on Benicar, most of these had eventually gone away, until I added the minocin. The photosensitivity, occassional ringing in ears, a little bit of a cough, irritibility and sleep disturbances such as dreaming of Reenie and Aussie Barb and I don't even know what they said in those dreams. I guess that would bring in brain fog. Actually brain fog has been very irritating to me, my friends are all saying 'don't you remember that?' and it might have just been less than an hour ago. Had a hard time going to sleep last night. It was 2 am and I was back up at 7am. Think I will take a nap.
May not take 50 mg (or the 75 I had mentioned earlier) Minocin tonight as planned. Shoulders are being very irritatating today and my head has felt like somebody put a heeeaaavy metal plate on top of my head and it weighs a ton. ttyl Barney

DAY 52 FEBRUARY 21, 2005 BP 125/79 P82 20MG BENICAR Q3HRS 40MG BENICAR BEDTIME QUERCETIN (1) THIS AM AND 1 PAIN PILL, NO MINOCIN
STILL HAVE MOST OF THE PROBLEMS I POSTED EARLIER TODAY PLUS THAT DARN NASTY METAL TASTE WILL NOT GO AWAY. GLAD TO BE HERXING BUT NOT REAL FOND OF SOME OF THE THINGS GOING ON BUT AT LEAST 'BUGS' ARE DYING.
I CAN'T BELIEVE IT IS ALMOST 2 MONTHS DOWN THE ROAD WITH MP. TIME IS SURE FLYING.
GETTING VERY TIRED AND SLEEPY. GOODNIGHT ALL.

Hi BARNEY,
I hope the dreams were GOOD ones.   
As for the pain in your neck, I used to get made fun of, for the way I described my constant neck and shoulder pain that I've had for years. I used to say that it felt like my head was way too heavy for my small neck to support it.
This has improved drastically, since the MP. Rather than my neck getting stronger or my head getting lighter, my neck muscles function better; they're not so spasmed anymore.

I can't remember what the dreams were about just that you and Aussie Barb were in them. We will just assume they were GOOD, what else could they be?
You hit the nail on the hear for the description of the neck pain. That's why I never wore a helmet when we rode our Harley. Made my head feel even heavier. It won't help to lecture me about wearing a helmet, I've ridden for almost 40 years and always refused one. Nothing like a ride on a Harley with the wind blowing in your hair to make you feel better no matter how bad you feel. It always made me feel better.
MP has been a life saver, I would go thru almost any herx just for the improvements so far. I have some neck pain but only when herxing and not anything like I suffered for years. MP IS FANTASTIC. Barney

DAY 53 FEB 22, 2005 BP 99/73 P 81 117/84 P 81 20MG BENICAR Q3HRS, 40MG BENICAR BEDTIME, NO MINICON, NO PAIN PILLS, NO QUERCETIN
SLEPT FROM 1PM TO 5PM JUST REALLY FATIGUED. AS SOON AS I FINISH THIS, I AM GOING BACK TO BED, STILL REALLY FATIGUED. THE METAL TASTE IN MY MOUTH HAS BEEN STRONGER THIS AFTERNOON AND BECOMING VERY ANNOYING.

GOT UP THIS MORNING WITH SHOULDERS HURTING BAD. TOOK PAIN PILL AND IT WAS BETTER IN ABOUT AN HOUR.
STILL HAVE METAL TASTE IN MY MOUTH. MADE CHICKEN STIR FRY AND IN ABOUT AN HOUR I HAD BAD STOMACH CRAMPS AND DIARREHA. DRANK SOME SPRITE AND IT HELPED A LOT. HOW LONG WILL THIS METAL TASTE PRESIST? IS IT NORMAL TO LAST THIS LONG? BARNEY

Barney,
Is the herx tolerable? are you needing to take or have you tried taking the Benicar 20mg Q2H while awake to see if that settles the symptoms?
if you are wanting to try this Beni schedule first, to see if you get any relief? do that..
sometimes if you take the next dose of mino, it will settle symptoms too..
if it is intolerable there is the frequent mino schedule.. My Herxheimer reaction is too strong. What should I do?

Barb,
Thank you for all the info. After taking it all into consideration (and I printed it all for a reference, since brain does not work good), I decided that the metal taste was more of a nuisance than anything and I was not having painful herx that by no means was intolerable. I have suffered so much pain in 40 years, it just seems like a normal thing to have, except for the very first herx where the ear, tooth and jaw (r) hurt so horribly. That was pretty intense.
I have taken the next 50 mg dose of Mino and acidod and am doing well. I will put my ususal post on at 9PM. Just wanted you to know I am doing well so far. Just sleeping a little more. Had a couple of restless nights and am making up for lost sleep. Love Barney

LAST COUPLE OF NIGHTS WERE PRETTY RESTLESS NIGHTS AND FULL OF DREAMING, SO BEEN CATCHING UP ON SOME SLEEP. HEAD WAS HURTING EARLY MORNING, SO TOOK PAIN PILL AND IT WENT AWAY.
STILL HAVE METAL TASTE IN MOUTH, A REAL NUISANCE. OTHER THAN THESE THINGS, NOT MUCH GOING ON TODAY. VERY COLD HERE, SO AM GOING TO BED EARLY. WHEN THE WIND BLOWS HERE (WITH COLD IN IT), IT IS JUST ABOUT LIKE NOT HAVING ANY WALLS (EVEN IN A WELL BUILT HOUSE), SO THE BEST PLACE TO GET WARM IS UNDER THE ELECTRIC BLANKET, SO THAT IS WHERE I AM HEADED. GOT UP FEELING SORT OF 'FUNNY'. WHATEVER HOUSEWORK NEEDED DONE I FIGURED I BETTER GET DONE BUT THE MORE I DID THE BETTER I FELT. ALL THAT IS LEFT IS NAUSEA AND GAS. SHOULDERS HAD HURT REAL BAD SO I TOOK A PAIN PILL AND THAT WENT AWAY. TIRED FEELING. OTHERWISE DOING WELL. I THINK.
GOING OUT AS SOON AS IT GETS DARK, SO I THOUGHT I WOULD POST EARLY.

SLEPT MOST OF DAY, SINCE I WAS UP HALF THE NIGHT TALKING WITH A FRIEND. WAS NICE TO GET AWAY FOR A WHILE.
WENT IN THIS EVENING AFTER DARK AND HELP MY FRIEND LEARN MORE ABOUT OPERATING HER COMPUTER (SHE'S 82 AND JUST LEARNING) AND HELPED HER HOOK UP A TV IN HER BEDROOM.
NOTHING MUCH GOING ON, STILL HAVE SOME METAL TASTE IN MOUTH, GETTING PRETTY USED TO IT.
WILL UP THE MINO TONIGHT SINCE ALL HERXING SEEMS TO HAVE CALMED DOWN.

Hi Barney! I have been reading your posts and wanted you to know that have been a great source of inspiration for me. I am just a few weeks behind you on the MP.....having just started my "mino" last week.
It is nice to be able to compare notes with ya.....as our "herxing" is quite similiar.
I am due to have another go'round tonight with 25mgs....and it is most helpful knowing I am NOT alone....
Aren't we lucky that Trevor is such a genius and the gals persevered so we can ALL get WELL together.....

DAY 58 FEB 27, 05 BENICAR 20MG Q3HRS MORNING, BENICAR 20MG Q2HRS, BENICAR 40MG BEDTIME, NO MINO, PAIN PILLS (2), 1 ASPRIN, 2 8HR TYLENOL
UP AT 6:45AM WITH SHOULDERS/NECK HURTING BAD, PAIN IN SPINE (HALF WAY DOWN BACK) HURTING REALLY BAD. TOOK PAIN PILL, DIDN'T TOUCH PAIN. SUFFERED FOR A FEW HOURS UNTIL I REMEMBERED BENICAR 20MG Q2HRS, THAT HELPED IN ADDITION TO 2 8HR TYLENOL. I HAVE A VERY HIGH TOLERANCE FOR PAIN, SO IT HAS TO GET PRETTY INTENSE BEFORE MY BRAIN FOG LIFTS AND I FIGURE OUT I BETTER DO SOMETHING SOON.
PAIN WAS BACK IN MY BACK ONLY BY 9PM, SO I TOOK ANOTHER PAIN PILL PLUS AND ASPRIN. PAIN LEVEL LOWERED TO A TOLERERABLE LEVEL. LOTS OF HERXING FOR TODAY. MADE IT THRU. IF ALL GOES WELL AND THE HERX CALMS DOWN TOMORROW, THEN I WILL TAKE 75MG AGAIN TOMORROW NIGHT.
