I have now been on the MP for 10 months.  Here is a bit about my background and my progress so far on the MP.

Dx: CFS since 1999, auto-immune thyroiditis (hypothyroid), endometriosis (since early 1990s).

History/Symptoms: fatigue, post-exertional malaise, cognitive difficulties (concentration, memory, brain-fog, information processing), joint/muscle pain, bone and nerve pain, sore throat, swollen lymph nodes, low grade fever, IBS, hypoglycemia, neurally-mediated hypotension, dizziness, loss of balance and coordination, chemical sensitivities, night sweats.  I have been too unwell to work since 2001.

Medications: Effexor, Lyrica, Pindolol, Thyroxine, Clonazepam, Melatonin (liquid/drops), Yasmin (OCP), Benicar 40mg Q6H.

Starting Benicar (August 2007) was quite difficult for me - I began to experience immunopatholgy symptoms pretty much straight away.  I think maybe because of my additional endocrine disorders, there was a lot of rebalancing of the hormones going on as the Benicar reduces the level of 1-25D.  Increasing Benicar to 6H rather than 8H really helped me.  My progress thread: http://www.marshallprotocol.com/forum38/9911-1.html

Phase One - started September 2007 - progress thread http://www.marshallprotocol.com/forum20/10238-1.html
I experienced fairly strong IP throughout phase one.  This wasn't easy, but I had to keep reminding myself that this was confirmation that the treatment is doing what it should be doing - killing bacteria and reducing the infection!
The main IP I experienced was increased fatigue, joint and muscle pain, nerve pain, flu-like symptoms, swollen glands, headaches, dizziness, low blood pressure (orthostatic hypotension), stomach upset, eye inflammation (dry eyes and visible red veins), and skin  inflammation/itching.  The eye and skin IP was a bit of a surprise - but the MP can't "cause" inflammation or symptoms in an area unless there was already bacteria there.  It really is amazing how widespread these bacteria are, affecting so many areas of the body!

Modified phase two commenced  in December 2007.
IP in this phase generally involved more neurological symptoms, such as anxiety, feeling flat, feeling "tired but wired" (very frustrating, it's like your brain won't switch off!), headaches, back pain, occasional nerve pain, muscle pain/stiffness, parasthesia (numbness, tingling, or pins and needles), and cognitive difficulties (concentration, memory, mixing words up, general "brain fog").  I found that by increasing the second antibiotic by smaller amounts, that this helped to keep these symptoms more tolerable.
At the lower doses of these antibiotics, it was very encouraging to be able to see some improvements in my symptoms, compared to before I started the MP.  My fatigue levels, post-exertional malaise ("payback" symptoms after activity), and the amount of time it took me to recover after doing things have all begun to improve. I have been able to be a bit more active this year, which I have really enjoyed! :D  At the beginning of March I was able to go on a holiday interstate for 5 days, and was able to do more than I anticipated.  I am doing better with managing day to day activities and things around the house, and have also been able to go out a bit more often.  I have been able to manage better with driving - previously I would only do short trips (up to 20 minutes), now I can manage 45 minutes to 1 hour (not every day, but I can do it).

Another area that has improved on the MP is the auto-immune thyroid condition that developed after I had had CFS for a few years.  I have regular blood tests to monitor my thyroid levels, and since I have been on the MP treatment these tests have been showing improvements.  I have been able to reduce my thyroid medication twice by a small amount.

I started Phase Two in May 2008, and will keep you updated of my progress!

Best wishes to everyone who is journeying the MP!
Mel  (Shadowfeet)  :)
