Yesterday the "30th Anniversary of Lyme Disease" conference was held by the 'Greater Hartford Lyme Disease' group and the 'Town of Farmington CT - Community Services'.

The Town helped provide the magnificent venue - which was filled to capacity with about 220 attendees when I took this photo in late afternoon. In the morning (before fatigue set in :)) there was standing-room only.

It was an overwhelming day. Present in that room was every facet of knowledge about the Th1 organisms, and the diseases they cause. Speakers were

Dr Lesley Ann Fein: Master of Ceremonies and Overview Presentation
Dr Lida H Mattman: Lida showed the key 'mug shots' she has of the Th1 pathogens
Dr Jo Anne Whitaker: Spoke about the Bowen Labs testing and fascinating data they have been collecting
Dr Richard Horowitz: VP, ILADS, sang a song (really), followed by an excellent presentation
Dr Steven Philips: President ILADS, gave a review of the state of formal research in Lyme
Dr Bernard Raxlen: got a standing ovation for his excellent presentation on how psychiatry 'doesn't get it'
Dr Garth Nicholson: Gave an amazing presentation on co-infections and gave data on how the key Th1 pathogens have quickly spread within families of Gulf War veterans
Me: I gave my Chicago talk, plus some new stuff about the Borrelia genome and bacterial lipid/glucose metabolism.

This is going to be a work in progress, so please check back for new stuff as we write it up. I will be thinking about what to write during the long flight back to California :)

If you were there, please post your own thoughts, too

I will have some video up on the web later tonight.

OK, here is the scoop.
Halfway through the conference a distinguished looking gentleman came into the hall accompanied by an entourage of active young men dressed in black suits.

It was the Attorney General of Connecticut, Richard Blumenthal, who handed out awards to Dr Charles Ray Jones and Polly Murray.

It was heartwarming to see Dr J., who has already helped some kids out with the MP, being praised for his efforts, and not persecuted (as is happening with Dr Fein in New Jersey).

I had my pocket video camera with me, and here is video of that part of the event.

Click here for the video in "Real Video" format

Click here for a lower quality version in Microsoft WM9 format.

I have video of some of the other talks, and the conference organizers will be selling a DVD, in due course. So, one way or another, we will get this material out to you, as it was one of the most amazing 'confluence of the minds' that I have ever been to. I learnt so much last weekend...

"I want to thank the Docs, the Doctors who stand up, speak out, fight with you against this disease, against many in their own profession, .. they, too, demonstrate tremendous courage" (Attorney General Blumenthal, timestamp 2:45)

..Trevor..
ps: please spread these links throughout the Lyme community. We need to let our politicians know that treating Lyme (and Th1) patients humanely is something that at least one State Government is encouraging - and it is time for all politicians to get with the future, before they get left out on a limb.

I would be interested in purchasing the DVDs when they become available.

Trevor,

Thank you so much for sharing this !

I was wondering why you seemed to be so elated this past week. I understand now !

Congratulations to you and the staff that are making this happen for the people who need it most !!!

How do you say that in the USA?

One state down, 51 to go ??

Cheerio, Frans

The organization which ran the conference has been a little slow getting out its DVDs. The order form is at URL
http://www.ctlymedisease.org/order.htm

Our Foundation also took a video of the event, and has 'professionally' produced two of the presentations (mine and Garth Nicholson's). I will send you a copy of that DVD, as we are not marketing it in competition to the Greater Hartford Lyme association

Dr Garth Nicholson's presentation at "30th Anniversary of Lyme" Conference

http://autoimmunityresearch.org/garth-30th.ram

and from the Hartford group's website at URL
http://www.ctlymedisease.org/video/nicholson.ram

You need a 100KBps broadband connection. Dial-up will not work, and no, there is no transcript. If you have a dial-up connection you can download the video to your disk and play it from the disk by clicking on
http://autoimmunityresearch.org/garth-30th.rm

Dr Marshall's presentation at 30th Lyme (or Chicago DVDs)
